How I photograph a civil wedding in Sibiu

I am Daniel, a civil wedding photographer who travels to Sibiu for your day. I photograph the preparations, the ceremony, the moments with your guests and then a walk through the old town, just the two of you.

Sibiu has the best setting for a civil wedding of any town I work in: the ceremony is held in the middle of the historic centre, next to the Bridge of Lies, so the photographs start the moment you step out of the door.

How much does a civil wedding photographer cost in Sibiu?

My basic package for a civil wedding in Sibiu is 400 EUR. It covers at least two hours: a short preparation, the ceremony, photographs with your guests and a couple session in the town.

  • Basic package, 400 EUR: 2+ hours of photography, about 300 edited photographs and a private online gallery.
  • Extra hours, 75 EUR per hour: if you want photographs at the meal or at the party. They go into the same gallery.
  • Travel to Sibiu is included in the price, whatever the time of the ceremony. The price includes my travel from Cluj-Napoca or Târgu Mureș.

You can build your offer and accept it online on the civil wedding photographer page. If a full wedding follows later, the prices for every format are on my wedding photographer prices page.

How a civil wedding day in Sibiu goes

Every couple makes their own schedule, but the hours fall in a similar order. This is how a typical civil wedding day looks, so you can calculate the hours you need.

  • One hour before: preparations, the bouquet and the last details of the outfit.
  • 20–30 minutes before: we arrive in Piața Mică. Guests gather in front of the Wedding House, a few steps from the Bridge of Lies.
  • The ceremony: around 10–15 minutes. The act is read, rings are exchanged, and you and your two witnesses sign.
  • Right after: congratulations and photographs with family, right in the square.
  • The couple session: 45–60 minutes through the historic centre.
  • The meal or the party: if you want photographs there too, we add hours.

Sibiu has the advantage that no time is lost on the road: from the exit of the hall to the Large Square is a two-minute walk. In an hour, three or four completely different places can be linked, and the gallery shows it.

Where civil weddings take place in Sibiu

In Sibiu there are two different addresses, and couples often mix them up: the documents are filed at Sibiu City Hall, 1–3 Victoriei Boulevard, while the ceremony is held at the Wedding House at 22 Piața Mică, in the middle of the historic centre.

  • The marriage counter on Victoriei Boulevard accepts documents on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 09:00–13:30.
  • Ceremonies: Thursday 11:00–15:30, Friday 09:00–12:00, Saturday 09:00–13:00.
  • For a Saturday ceremony, the documents are filed only on the basis of a prior online booking.
  • Online booking is made on the city hall portal and requires at least one of you to have your domicile or residence in Sibiu. If you both live elsewhere, the booking is cancelled, so call first on 0269 208 841.
  • Contact: 0269 208 841, evidentapersoanelor@sibiu.ro.

The marriage takes place from the 11th day after filing the declaration and at the latest on the 30th day, counting both the filing day and the ceremony day. Marriage notices are published on the city hall’s website, in the order the files were filed. The full list of documents is in my guide to getting married in Romania.

Where we take the photographs after the ceremony in Sibiu

The Wedding House is right in the historic centre, so all the places below are a few minutes on foot.

Piața Mică and the Bridge of Lies

The first stop, as you leave the hall. The cast-iron bridge, the houses with “cat eyes” and the arcades of the square give frames anyone who opens the gallery recognises. Photographs with guests are made here too.

Piața Mare and the Council Tower

Two minutes away, through the tower passage. The square gives wide frames, with the Brukenthal Palace and the Ursuline Church in the background, and from the Council Tower you have a panorama of the town.

Piața Huet and the Stairs Passage

The quietest part of the centre. The Evangelical Cathedral, the old stone stairs and the covered passage that descends towards the Lower Town are my favourite place for portraits, because the shade is even at any hour.

The Lower Town

Ocnei street, Piața Aurarilor, low coloured houses. It is a few dozen steps below the centre and looks completely different, so it changes the rhythm of the gallery.

Sub Arini Park

If you want green and quiet. It is ten minutes from the centre and worth it especially in autumn, when the alleys are covered in leaves.

If the day continues elsewhere

I go on with you to the party venue, in town or in the county. I have photographed weddings at Domeniul Orlandea, and the options I know from my own events are in my guide to wedding venues in Romania.

See also my Sibiu wedding photography page.

My photography style at a civil wedding

I photograph in a documentary way: I stand to one side and let the day unfold. The look between you before the signature, a parent’s hand wiping their eyes, the laugh after the rings happen only once and look different if I ask for them a second time.

At the couple session I guide you a little more. I give you something simple to do, like a walk or a joke between the two of you, and I photograph what comes out. After the first minutes you forget about the camera, and it flows from there. The result is in my portfolio.

How we work together

  1. You write to me with the date and time of the ceremony, and I confirm availability and send an offer within 2 hours.
  2. We talk, online or in person, about the day, the people who matter and the moments that must not be missed.
  3. We sign the contract, and you pay the date reservation fee of 30% of the contract value.
  4. On the day I arrive before the ceremony and stay with you through the preparations, the ceremony and the guests.
  5. We continue with the couple session, in the place we chose together.
  6. You receive the edited photographs in a private online gallery, and the remaining 70% is paid after the event.

When you receive the photographs

  • In 1–3 days you receive a preview with a few frames, so you have something to show your family.
  • In 3–4 weeks you receive the full edited gallery in a private link that stays active for at least a year.
  • Download in full resolution, with no logo and with printing rights. If you want the photographs on paper too, we make a photo album together (page in Romanian).

Tips for a civil wedding in Sibiu

  • Keep the two addresses straight. Documents go to Victoriei Boulevard and the ceremony is in Piața Mică.
  • For a Saturday ceremony, book online before you file, and call first if you both live outside Sibiu.
  • Leave an hour free after the ceremony. It is the only interval for couple photographs without a rush.
  • IDs and witnesses. Identity documents must be valid at filing and on the ceremony day, and the two witnesses bring their IDs.
  • If it rains, the arcades of the squares and the Stairs Passage give us cover. We decide beforehand where we go.
  • Tell me in advance if you are preparing something special: a surprise, a dance, a gift.
