How I photograph a civil wedding in Cluj-Napoca
I am Daniel, a civil wedding photographer in Cluj-Napoca, and I am there for everything the day brings: the emotion before you walk in, the “yes”, the signature in the register, the hugs with your parents and then a walk through the city, just the two of you.
For many couples in Cluj the civil ceremony is the only event. It lasts a quarter of an hour, but it is the day you call each other husband and wife for the first time, and it deserves more than a few photographs taken in a hurry by someone in the family.

- Basic package, 349 EUR: 2+ hours of photography, about 300 edited photographs and a private online gallery.
- Extra hours, 49 EUR per hour: if you want photographs at the meal or at the party. They go into the same gallery.
- Travel in Cluj-Napoca is included in the price, as in Târgu Mureș.
You can build your offer and accept it online on the civil wedding photographer page. If a full wedding follows later, the prices for every format are on my wedding photographer prices page.
How a civil wedding day in Cluj-Napoca goes
Every couple makes their own schedule, but the hours fall in a similar order. This is how a typical civil wedding day looks, so you can calculate the hours you need.
- One hour before the ceremony: last preparations, the bouquet, the details of the outfit and the first relaxed photographs.
- 20–30 minutes before: arrival at the registry office, meeting your guests and witnesses, group photographs before entering.
- The ceremony: usually around 10–15 minutes. The act is read, rings are exchanged, and you and your witnesses sign.
- Right after: congratulations, champagne and photographs with family and friends in front of the building.
- The couple session: 45–60 minutes at a place nearby, where just the three of us go.
- The meal or the party: optional, with extra hours.
The ceremony itself is short. If you want beautiful photographs, the time for them is made after the ceremony, which is why I recommend not scheduling the meal right after it.

Where civil weddings take place in Cluj-Napoca
Civil weddings in the city are officiated by the Civil Registry Service of Cluj-Napoca City Hall, at 5 Moților street. The marriage declaration is filed there, in room 16, and the date and time of the ceremony can be booked online on the city hall’s platform.
- Filing the file: Monday–Wednesday 08:30–15:30, Thursday 08:30–17:00, Friday 08:30–14:00.
- Legal deadline: the marriage takes place 11–30 days after the declaration is filed. For a Saturday wedding, the documents are filed at the latest during the previous week.
- The premarital medical certificate is valid for 30 days, so do not get it too early.
- The date is booked online on the e-primariaclujnapoca.ro platform.
The full list of documents, including special cases (a previous marriage, a foreign citizen, minors), is in my guide to getting married in Romania. Always check the city hall’s website before you go, because opening hours change.
The ceremony can also be held outside the registry office, in a place you choose, with the registrar’s approval. More and more couples in Cluj choose this: the ceremony takes place in the garden of the venue where the party follows, so the day is not split into two journeys.
Where we take the photographs after the ceremony in Cluj-Napoca
Cluj has the advantage that everything is close. From Moților street you reach any of the places below in a few minutes, which matters when you only have an hour.
Central Park and the Casino
The most used option, and rightly so: it is a few steps from the registry office. You have the fountain with statues, the main alley, the lake with boats and the Casino building with its arcades. It works in every season: flowers in spring, leaves in autumn and clean contrasts in winter.
The old town and Piața Unirii
Saint Michael’s Church, the streets behind it and Potaissa street with the Tailors’ Tower. The old walls and the light that falls between the buildings give photographs with character, very different from the park.
Cetățuia
For the panorama of the city. It is worth it especially towards evening, when the light drops and Cluj shows behind you. The climb is short, but think about your shoes.
The Botanical Garden
Plenty of green, greenhouses and Japanese bridges. Beautiful in the warm season; check the opening hours and the rules for photo sessions beforehand.
Venues outside the city
If the day continues with a party, it is worth staying at the venue. I have photographed civil weddings at Wild Hills and at Events by Chios, and events at La Forêt. See Wild Hills and La Forêt.

More options are in my guide to wedding venues in Romania, and the Cluj-Napoca wedding photography page shows the full wedding day.
My photography style at a civil wedding
I photograph in a documentary way: I stand to one side and let the day unfold. The look between you before the signature, a parent’s hand wiping their eyes, the laugh after the rings happen only once and look different if I ask for them a second time.
At the couple session I guide you a little more. I give you something simple to do, like a walk or a joke between the two of you, and I photograph what comes out. After the first minutes you forget about the camera, and it flows from there. The result is in my portfolio.
How we work together
- You write to me with the date and time of the ceremony, and I confirm availability and send an offer within 2 hours.
- We talk, online or in person, about the day, the people who matter and the moments that must not be missed.
- We sign the contract, and you pay the date reservation fee of 30% of the contract value.
- On the day I arrive before the ceremony and stay with you through the preparations, the ceremony and the guests.
- We continue with the couple session, in the place we chose together.
- You receive the edited photographs in a private online gallery, and the remaining 70% is paid after the event.
When you receive the photographs
- In 1–3 days you receive a preview with a few frames, so you have something to show your family.
- In 3–4 weeks you receive the full edited gallery in a private link that stays active for at least a year.
- Download in full resolution, with no logo and with printing rights. If you want the photographs on paper too, we make a photo album together (page in Romanian).
Tips for a civil wedding in Cluj-Napoca
- Book your time early. Saturdays from May to September go first. If you have a date in mind, enter the city hall platform as soon as the interval opens.
- Think about the time of the ceremony. At noon, indoors, the light is harsh, and outside the contrast is strong. A ceremony in the afternoon gives you much nicer light for the photographs in the park.
- Leave an hour free after the ceremony. It is the only interval when couple photographs can be made without a rush.
- IDs and witnesses. Identity documents must be valid both when filing and on the ceremony day, and the two witnesses come with their IDs.
- Prepare a plan B for rain. The Casino arcades, the hallways of the buildings in the centre and transparent umbrellas save the day.
- Tell me in advance if something special happens: a surprise, a dance, a gift. If I know, I am in the right place when it happens.
