How I photograph a civil wedding in Târgu Mureș
Târgu Mureș is my hometown. I grew up here, took my first photographs here and photographed most of my civil weddings here. When we arrive at the Citadel I already know how the light falls at the hour of your ceremony and which path we take afterwards, so the hour after is left for photographs.
I am Daniel, and I stay with you through the whole day: the morning preparations, the entrance into the golden hall, the signature in the register, the champagne with your guests and the walk through the Citadel, just the two of you.

How a civil wedding day in Târgu Mureș goes
Every couple makes their own schedule, but the hours fall in a similar order. This is how a typical civil wedding day looks, so you can calculate the hours you need.
- One hour before: preparations, the bouquet, the last details of the outfit. These are the quietest photographs of the day.
- 20–30 minutes before: we arrive at the Citadel. Guests and witnesses gather on the alley in front of the Wedding House.
- The ceremony: around 10–15 minutes. The act is read, rings are exchanged, and you and your two witnesses sign.
- Right after: congratulations and champagne in the room next door, then photographs with family outside.
- The couple session: 45–60 minutes through the Citadel.
- The meal or the party: if you want photographs there too, we add hours.
One planning detail: the city hall says the booked time can slip by up to ten minutes, depending on how long the ceremony before yours takes. Tell your guests an arrival time a quarter of an hour earlier.

Where civil weddings take place in Târgu Mureș
Civil weddings in the town are held at the Wedding House, moved in 2018 into the Medieval Citadel, in the building behind the Reformed Church. The file is filed somewhere else, though: at the Civil Registry Service in Victoriei Square no. 3, ground floor, room 19.
- The hall: a golden interior with twelve chandeliers. There are two ceremony rooms and an adjoining room where champagne is shared after the signatures. Guests in the hall follow the ceremony on screens too.
- Access: you enter the Citadel from Cetății Boulevard or from Avram Iancu street. The building is entered from the church side and left onto the main alley, designed so that two brides never meet.
- Filing the file at Victoriei Square no. 3, room 19: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 08:00–15:00, Thursday 08:00–18:00. Both of you must go, since the presence of both spouses is required.
- Ceremonies: Saturday 10:00–15:00, Sunday 10:00–13:00.
- Online booking is made at least 11 days before the ceremony, on the city hall’s booking platform. The confirmation arrives by email and states the period in which you go with the file to the Civil Registry.
The marriage takes place after 10 days from filing the declaration, counting both the filing day and the ceremony day. The premarital medical certificate required by Târgu Mureș City Hall is valid for 14 days from issue, so the interval is tight: get it shortly before you file. The full list of documents is in my guide to getting married in Romania.
Online booking works for marriages between Romanian citizens. If one of you has another citizenship, call the registrar first at 0265/268330, extension 115. The ceremony can also be held outside the office, with the registrar’s approval. I have photographed ceremonies held right at the party venue, at Hotel Privo, and outdoors at The Island.
Where we take the photographs after the ceremony in Târgu Mureș
Here Târgu Mureș has a luck few towns have: the ceremony hall is inside the Citadel itself. We step out of the door and we are already where we photograph, so the hour after the ceremony is for photographs, not for the road.
The alley and the courtyard in front of the Wedding House
The first stop, a few steps from the exit. Guests gather here, group photographs work well and this is where rice or confetti is thrown. Everyone is at hand, so it is quick.
The walls and the bastions
Stone and wood give photographs a different texture from the courtyard. They work best towards evening, when the sun goes down and enters under the walls.
The portal of the Reformed Church
The stone columns at the church entrance are where I make most couple portraits. The shade there is even at any hour, so it works at noon, when the light in the courtyard is harsh.
The alleys and the park behind
Green in summer, yellow in autumn, quiet all year. Here just the three of us go for the couple session. It is secluded enough to feel at ease, although we are in the middle of the town.
If the day continues elsewhere
When the meal is at Privo, The Island or a venue in the county, we go there and keep photographing. The venues I know from my own events are in my guide to wedding venues in Romania.

My photography style at a civil wedding
I photograph in a documentary way: I stand to one side and let the day unfold. The look between you before the signature, a parent’s hand wiping their eyes, the laugh after the rings happen only once and look different if I ask for them a second time.
At the couple session I guide you a little more. I give you something simple to do, like a walk or a joke between the two of you, and I photograph what comes out. After the first minutes you forget about the camera, and it flows from there. The result is in my portfolio.
How we work together
- You write to me with the date and time of the ceremony, and I confirm availability and send an offer within 2 hours.
- We talk, online or in person, about the day, the people who matter and the moments that must not be missed.
- We sign the contract, and you pay the date reservation fee of 30% of the contract value.
- On the day I arrive before the ceremony and stay with you through the preparations, the ceremony and the guests.
- We continue with the couple session, in the place we chose together.
- You receive the edited photographs in a private online gallery, and the remaining 70% is paid after the event.
When you receive the photographs
- In 1–3 days you receive a preview with a few frames, so you have something to show your family.
- In 3–4 weeks you receive the full edited gallery in a private link that stays active for at least a year.
- Download in full resolution, with no logo and with printing rights. If you want the photographs on paper too, we make a photo album together (page in Romanian).
Tips for a civil wedding in Târgu Mureș
- Book your time early. Saturdays from May to September go first. Online booking can be made at least 11 days ahead, but couples reserve months in advance.
- Get the medical certificate close to the day you file. It is valid for 14 days, and ten more days pass between filing and the ceremony.
- Leave an hour free after the ceremony. It is the only moment of the day for couple photographs without watching the clock.
- The ceremony hour changes the light. In the morning, in the Citadel, it is soft. At noon we have the shade of the walls and the portal. Late afternoon is the best light in the whole town.
- In autumn, the Citadel looks superb but cools quickly after sunset. A coat left in the car saves the couple session.
- IDs and witnesses. Identity documents must be valid at filing and on the ceremony day, and the two witnesses bring their IDs.
- If it rains, we move under the arcades and into the entrance corridor, and the bastions work as a roof. We decide beforehand where we go, so the time goes into photographs.
- Tell me in advance if you are preparing something special: a surprise, a gift, a particular entrance.
